Announces expanded partnership with 3T Radiology & Research

[Miami, FL] – RemoteRadTech—a company co-founded by Felipe Nirenberg, MD, and Flavio Lanes, MD, MBA,—has expanded its partnership with 3T Radiology & Research, a medical imaging diagnostic center in South Florida. The partnership began this summer, 2024, and is expanding to address heightened technologist staffing shortages—a resounding, omnipresent challenge in today’s radiology industry. The partnership also signals a nod to the emerging effectiveness of remote technologist services.

Dr. Lanes, co-founder, says, “RemoteRadTech was launched with a mission to address and solve the critical shortage of radiology technologists.”

Dr. Nirenberg reinforces, "Our remote radiology technologist’s services are here to boost productivity for MRI and CT equipment while enhancing patient care—a key step toward transforming healthcare accessibility and efficiency.”

Drs. Nirenberg and Lanes founded the largest teleradiology and remote technologist services company in Latin America. Leveraging their expertise, they’ve created RemoteRadTech as a new, independent U.S. company.

Services address ever-present, nationwide technologist staffing shortages

Technologist staffing shortages remain one of the main challenges in today’s healthcare environment. These shortages are an ever-present, palpable barrier to providing time-sensitive care and access to imaging services.

Technologists need help as they continue to face demanding work schedules, decreased staffing and overall burnout. These factors impact their ability to ensure an effective and efficient flow of patient care.

Dr. Nirenberg says that today, “Patients often have to wait an extended amount of time to get an MRI done.” While many factors work in unison to impact their wait, he shares that RemoteRadTech believes they shouldn’t have to wait this long, a belief on which the company is built.

“A day over is a day too long,” said Dr. Lanes. “We’re focused on addressing a real problem and its impact on a patient’s health. Patients deserve access to efficient, effective answers and results.”

“The more scans we can work with our client to complete, the more patients can be scanned and ultimately treated. It's all about creating value for the patient and their need to have access to scans, treatments and our attention," says Dr. Lanes.

Because of their combined experience in radiology, RemoteRadTech leaders are steeped in remote technologist workflow and best practices.

“We know how to execute this remote service efficiently and—more importantly—safely,” Dr. Nirenberg shares.

“We also employ a Magnetic Resonance Safety Officer (MRSO). She builds rapport with onsite teams, understands the client’s workflow, ensures safety and readies the staff to support a remote scanning workflow. She, along with RemoteRadTech professionals, is an extension of their already-established team. We supplement their services, not a replacement for current staff. We are our client’s partner, and we’re here to ensure they have the expertise needed to assist in the overall patient treatment journey,” he explains.

“The priority is the patient,” says Dr. Lanes.

“We work closely with them and understand their needs, processes and ways of doing things. We don’t come in and tell them what to do. We work with them,” he says.

3T Radiology & Research partnership represents collaboration

Through their partnership, RemoteRadTech is helping to address 3T Radiology & Research’s staffing shortages and is focused on providing more services.

“Since the beginning of this partnership, we’ve more than doubled the number of MRI Scanners under our remote service” says Dr. Nirenberg.

“Through their remote technologist staffing services, RemoteRadTech has enabled us to expand our operations—which makes us even more efficient. This partnership has also given us more time to interact with our patients because we now have the staffing bandwidth. They alleviate our staffing burden by supplementing our current services with their remote technologists – who can scan the patients remotely, safely and efficiently. This partnership has given us a chance to take the patient experience to the next level, and that’s what’s important, and why we’re here – to listen and help patients through their concerns and anxieties,” says Humberto Carrion, co-founder of 3T Radiology & Research.

Initially—when they began this partnership—3T staff worked from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with RemoteRadTech working this shift remotely, but “alongside” the staff.

“Today, RemoteRadTech not only supplements our work during the 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. shift, they now additionally cover and work through the 10 p.m. shift – helping to keep the scans moving efficiently for our patients,” says Carrion.

The staffing struggle is real . . .

According to an interview with Michigan Hospital Association’s CEO, Brian Peters, in The Detroit News on April 28, 2024, he says that the “Demand for imaging services is increasing across the country, creating longer worklists for radiology staff, and at the same time, the healthcare system is experiencing a workforce shortage in radiology. The combination of vacancies and increased demand can force imaging delays measured from days to upwards

of two weeks.

“Our expanded partnership with RemoteRadTech continues to improve and increase 3T’s overall patient volume. We can focus on being a part of the patient’s care journey and being there with them without worrying about time constraints or staffing issues.”

Carrion says that RemoteRadTech has already proved to be an invaluable asset and supplement for the 3T team.
